Clothing Tech Pack Checklist for Manufacturers
A clothing tech pack is the set of instructions used to develop and make a garment. It should answer practical questions about the design, measurements, materials and construction. A clear decision is more useful than a polished page with missing information.
Check the essentials first
| Section | What the team needs |
|---|---|
| Style identification | Style code, revision date and intended size range |
| Design | Front/back drawings with details that affect construction |
| Measurements | Base size, measurement points and how each is measured |
| Materials | Identified fabric and trims, including colour and finish |
| Decoration | Artwork version, finished size and placement dimensions |
| Review record | Sample version, agreed changes and outstanding decisions |
Write a note the sample maker can act on
“Add a chest pocket” leaves the shape, size and position open. An illustrative instruction would identify the pocket drawing, finished dimensions and placement measured from named garment points. If the fabric is checked, it would also show which lines should align with the front.
The measurements must come from your design; the useful principle is that the person making the sample should not need to invent a feature that matters to you. A photograph can support the note, but it should be annotated to show what to follow.
Show what is still undecided
If the button is provisional, identify the preferred appearance and the decision still needed. Do not mark the whole pack final while that component remains open. Once the sample is reviewed, update the relevant drawing and component entry together.
Keep body measurements distinct from garment measurements. State whether a width is measured flat and where its endpoints are. That prevents a technically neat-looking chart from communicating the wrong size.
Use the pack during the sample review
Compare the sample with the current instructions, then group comments by garment area. A collar revision may also affect a nearby fastening, so check related details before issuing the next version. The sample production guide explains how to turn those observations into the next development step.
For woven shirts, the shirt manufacturing guide identifies the collar, cuff, placket and other construction information to include.
Send the drawings and information you already have, together with the decisions you need help developing. We can discuss missing inputs before the next sample is requested. Share your current tech pack.
