Shirt Tech Pack for Manufacturing

Shirt Tech Pack for Manufacturing

A shirt tech pack should answer the questions that a pattern maker, sample sewer and production team would otherwise have to guess. It connects drawings, measurements, construction and materials in one current reference. The document can begin simply, but every revision must remain identifiable.

Describe the details that define the shirt

Show front and back technical views, then enlarge the collar, collar stand, front placket, cuff, sleeve opening, pocket, yoke and hem where necessary. State whether the front is a separate applied placket, a folded construction or another approved method. For cuffs, show shape, finished dimensions, button positions and pleat or gather arrangement.

An instruction such as “classic collar” is open to interpretation. A better entry combines a drawing, finished measurements, construction notes and the sample version that demonstrates the intended result.

Connect measurements to methods

List a base size, size range and named points of measurement. Define where each measurement begins and ends, whether the garment is fastened and how curved areas are handled. Add a tolerance only when it has been agreed for that style and method.

  • Use stable style, component and artwork codes.
  • Identify fabric, interlining, buttons, thread and labels.
  • Record colourways and approved physical references.
  • Mark open decisions separately from approved data.

The broader clothing tech pack checklist can help organise the file before a shirt-specific review.

Keep one source of truth through sampling

When a sample changes, update the measurement chart, drawings and construction notes that are affected. Do not leave approval only in email or chat. A practical revision note might read: “Version 03: cuff depth changed; second button moved; sleeve opening unchanged.” This tells the next user exactly what moved and what did not.

Textile Manufacture can review an existing shirt tech pack or help identify missing development inputs before coordinating sampling with a suitable partner workshop. Send the current file, reference images and intended order split; the next document or sample step can then be scoped.
