A print method should suit the artwork, fabric and production quantity. The cheapest setup for one design may not be the best for another. Placement, feel and wash performance are as important as the initial image.

Define the artwork

Supply a usable design file, dimensions, colour references and position relative to the garment. Identify whether each colourway needs a different print. Photographs, gradients and solid spot-colour graphics can lead to different production methods.

Test on the chosen material

Screen printing and transfers differ in setup and hand-feel; other techniques have their own material constraints. Approve a strike-off or decorated garment in the actual fabric, and assess stretch and washing if relevant.

Cost the complete operation

Ask whether separations, screens, artwork cleanup, labels and packing are included. A price based on a small chest print should not be compared with a full-back multicolour image. Keep the approved artwork version and placement diagram.
